Class One Boys High School Basketball district assignments and favorites

I thought I would start a little earlier than planned on Class one district assignments and favorites.  Below are listed the teams with rankings for each district along with a short outlook on each district and a few comments on their state tournament prospects.

Unfortunately, in the state tournament (https://www.mshsaa.org/Activities/DistrictWinners.aspx?alg=5&class=1), there is no seeding so the districts are set up from district one on the top to district 16 on the bottom.  That means that possibly the two best teams in the state, Dora and South Iron, could meet on March 2nd in a quarterfinal game that will be the best game in the state championship tournament rather than the state finale on March 9th where this winner faces a slightly lower rated finalist from the lower bracket.  Too bad they can't seed the teams.

CLASS 1 DISTRICT ASSIGNMENTS
(favorites in each district are listed in bold)

Look for Risco and Delta to dominate this tournament with Scott County and Richland challenging.

Gideon 53
Southland (Cardwell) 43

South Iron is the favorite in District 2 and one of the top teams in the state tournament bracket.  Lesterville could provide some competition but look for the Panthers to dominate.

Lesterville 89
Zalma 68
Leopold 67
Viburnum 48
St. Paul Lutheran (Farmington) 44
Bell City 42
Marquand-Zion 15

District 3
Dora is another state tournament favorite but Eminence recently upset South Iron and will give Dora all they can handle.  Unfortunately for Eminence, the defensive shout-out "shooter!" applies to every Falcon player that touches the rock.
Dora 101
Eminence 94
Newburg  73
Bunker 60
Bakersfield 57
Winona  55
Koshkonong 51
Couch 49

Sheldon 65
Lockwood  61
McAuley Catholic Joplin 59
Everton 56
Exeter 47

Lakeland and Montrose lead this district, and one of these teams could get to the quarterfinals of the state tournament due to a weaker middle of the state tournament bracket (districts 5 to 8).
Lakeland 87
Montrose 86
Drexel 70
Ballard 67
Appleton City 64
Rich Hill 55
Miami 51
Northeast Vernon County 49

District 7 champion will most probably be St. Elizabeth although Wheatland, Macks Creek and Weaubleau has an outside shot to upset.  None of these teams go beyond the second round in the state bracket.

Wheatland 78
Macks Creek 75
Weaubleau 75
Climax Springs 68
Humansville 53
Hermitage 41
Tuscumbia 40

District 8
Concordia is the class of district 8, with Santa Fe and Leeton as dark horses.  Concordia has a good chance to get to the quarterfinals of the state tournament due to the weakness in this part of the bracket.

Santa Fe 77
Leeton 76
Green Ridge 67
Northwest (Hughesville) 63
La Monte 62
Chilhowee 51
Kingsville 45

Will anyone challenge Chamois in district 9?  Probably not, although Jamestown has an outside chance.  Chamois could make some noise into the state quarterfinals.

Pilot Grove 72
Prairie Home 67
Otterville 58
Missouri School for the Deaf 52
Columbia Independent High School  49
Bunceton 47

Another weaker district, Canton and Community should fight this out although Wellsville-Middleton and North Shelby could surprise.  None of these teams will impress the state tournament field.

Community  74
Wellsville-Middleton 72
North Shelby 70
Madison 59
Higbee 47
Bevier 35
Marion County 18
Average 57
District 11
In a stronger district, Slater, who has been a favorite of mine since they beat my grandsons Larry Hughes Select 2021 team last summer, should slice though this field unless Glasgow makes some noise.  Slater has a good chance to get to the state semi- or final and an outside chance to win the class one title.  Go Wildcats!
Slater 94
Glasgow 88
Meadville 74
Northwestern (Mendon) 74
Keytesville 68
Hale with Bosworth 63
Brunswick 55
Bucklin-Macon County 39

Winston is the class of district 13, with Wellington-Napoleon not to far behind.    The Red Birds could flap into the quarterfinals of state.  Look for a showdown with Jefferson (Conception Junction) in the second round.

Braymer 63
Orrick 52
Norborne 41

North Harrison (Eagleville) 58
Ridgeway with Cainsville 56
Albany 52
Gilman City 33
Tri-County (Jamesport) 30

District 15
Mound City is another state tournament dark horse but will have a tough district game with North Andrew.  Assuming they beat them, the undefeated Mound City Panthers could make their way to a state tournament final, with an outside chance of beating Dora or South Iron.   They will have to beat good Jefferson (Conception Junction) and Slater teams to get there.
Mound City 96
North Andrew 89
South Holt 72
Dekalb MO 65
Stewartsville 61
King City 59
Osborn 42
Union Star 38

No one will touch Jefferson (Conception Junction) in district 16.  The question will be,  can Jefferson (CJ) get through tough lower state bracket to face South Iron or Dora in a state final?
