MLK Jr. and St. Louis Boys High School Area Rankings

It's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday today and I thought I would post a thought piece with a St. Louis area boys high school ranking of both Missouri and Illinois schools.  I have put a little more effort into looking at the greater St. Louis area with the Bass Pro Shop tournament and the big Alton win over Chaminade.  It's a fairly wide net with teams from both sides of the Mississippi, within about a two hour drive of St. Louis, listed below.

But first, a few thoughts about MLK on what would have been his 90th birthday.  One of King's philosophies was "Small great things", which meant doing something, no matter how small and inconsequential, that might have a positive impact on the changing of society to a better place.

It took over 100 years from the emancipation of slaves in 1863 to get the Civil Rights Act, which was supposed to help eliminate the many prejudicial practices in employment, education, housing, banking and voting rights that came from the Jim Crow era.  And now, 55 years later, all of the slow gains in civil rights have seemed to slip back with the election of an uncensored bigot.  I feel helpless, in my advanced years, to make some kind of dramatic difference in our society for people of color, but I take solace in doing small acts of kindness, "small great things", that will knock down the inequalities in our society today.  A just society will not happen in my lifetime but, if each one of us does these "small great things" in your daily lives, we can do honor to Dr. King's vision.
