2018-2019 St. Louis Area Boys Basketball - Returnees analysis

I wasted away some time this past week looking at the new league setups and how teams are shaping up during the tryouts this month.  I am sure every high school coach has their hands full looking at who is back, how to replace their departed seniors and scoring leaders, finding a good team chemistry and producing a well-oiled basketball team.  It has to be a tremendous challenge every year but also a very rewarding one.

Listed below are the four new conferences and the other conferences that have not changed.  I have included my last power rating for each team from last March, their final 2017-2018 record and then looked at several aspects of the returning players..... number coming back, percent of last years team, percent of the scoring that is returning and the average height of the returnees.

I will be running my algorithm on the power ratings again this year but it would be interesting to see how this year's rating goes in relationship to the returnee information.  I don't have a good enough handle on it to predict how teams will look so I will hold off until mid-December before starting the rankings again.

It seems like having about 50% returnees and 50% scoring is a good ratio.  Some teams lost a lot of starters and scoring, so it will be interesting to see how they reload.
